A grieving and heartbroken family feels their ‘world is falling apart’ after their little toddler died of Covid in Queensland on Sunday.
On July 14, 23-month-old Ruby Edwards tested positive for Covid, which caused a rare neurological disease called acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis.
Aggressive disease caused intense inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, damaging her myelin.
Ruby died at Brisbane Children’s Hospital on Sunday, becoming the youngest Covid victim in Queensland.
Her father Stephen Edwards announced the devastating news on Monday via Facebook.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that our beautiful baby girl, Ruby Grace Edwards, grew angel wings and passed away peacefully yesterday, July 24, 2022 at 4:21 pm, just two weeks before her second birthday, surrounded by her family.” he said. wrote.
“She fought long and hard, but unfortunately the condition was too aggressive, ruthless and ruthless. Due to her treatment, we do not believe that she suffered pain during the battle and was able to peacefully leave this world.”
“The hardworking medical team of experts at both Logan Hospital and QLD Children’s Hospital went above and beyond and we are eternally grateful for their efforts and care.”
Mr. Edwards and his wife Krystal grieve over the loss of their young daughter, preparing to welcome another child into the world soon.
Their son is due to arrive on Friday and Edwards said their family is feeling “broken” at a time that should be “happy”.
“The world seems to be collapsing for us right now as we prepare for our son’s arrival this Friday, 07/29/2022. It should be such a happy time when our family becomes complete, but now it is so broken, ”he wrote.
“We all need to love and support each other during this unimaginably difficult time. We are all in pain, we are all in pain, please be kind and be there for each other, cherish Ruby’s memory and the joy she brought into our lives.
“All Krystal and I know right now is that we need to be strong when we hug our newborn son. He will need us and we will need him.”
Family friend Sarah Watton said the family is dealing with a “mixture of emotions” as they mourn their young daughter as they prepare to welcome their son into the world.
“What makes this incredibly difficult time even more challenging is that Krystal and Steven are expecting their son to arrive on Friday. What a mix of emotions for anyone trying to deal with this,” she said.
“Ruby didn’t stay long in this world. However, she made the most of every second. such a loving, caring little girl, always smiling. She touched the hearts of everyone she met and everyone who met her will be deeply missed.”
The GoFundMe page set up by Ms. Watton to help the family raised over $11,000 in just one day.
“I know there are no words to comfort Ruby’s mom and dad right now as they are struggling to get through this incredibly difficult time, so I was hoping to try and help them financially,” she said.
