Brendan Fraser transforms into a 600-pound man in first image from ‘The Whale’

Brendan Fraser finally starring in a new movie.

A24 released the first image from Darren Aronofskyupcoming drama “Keith” on Tuesday. Frazier plays an obese man in the film who struggles to reunite with his 17-year-old daughter, whom he plays Sadie Sink or “Stranger Things.”

The Whale will debut at the 2022 Venice Film Festival starting August 2. 31, according to a tweet from the production studio.

Fraser and Sink were joined in the cast by Hong Chau, Samantha Morton and Ty Simpkins.

“It’s going to be something you haven’t seen yet,” Frazier said. Unilad in 2021 about his performance in The Whale. “That’s really all I can tell you.

In an interview with Newsweek In the same year, Frazier said: “The wardrobe and suit were extensive, solid, bulky. It’s certainly far from anything I’ve ever done, but I won’t be modest… I know it will make a lasting impression.”

Frazier was a major star in the 1990s and early 2000s, playing the Mummy franchise and 1997’s George of the Jungle before his career waned due to a series of personal issues.

In 2018 GQ profile, Frazier said his body began to deteriorate after he had to undergo multiple surgeries due to action scenes in many of his films. He divorced his wife Afton Smith in 2008 and his mother died in 2016.

But Frazier suggested that the event that really shook him off the limelight was an incident in the summer of 2003 in which Frazier says that Philip Burke, former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, raped him.

“I felt bad. I felt like a little kid,” Frazier said of the alleged incident. “I felt like I had a lump in my throat. I thought I was going to cry.”

Fans haven’t forgotten Frazier, though, and during an online fan meeting for The Mummy last year, he got some emotion when he found out that people on Twitter were cheering for his return to the big screen.

“There are so many people who love you,” Lindley Key, co-host and Frazier fan, told him. “And we’re rooting for you and can’t wait to see what you do next.”

Frasier’s popularity has risen again over the past few years, starting with a supporting role on Season 3 of The Lovers in 2016 and starring on the DC Universe and HBO Max series Doom Patrol starting in 2019. Last year, he had a supporting role in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Moves, but The Whale will mark his official return as the film’s lead actor.
