Illinois lawmakers hold virtual hearing to discuss solutions to gun violence

CHICAGO (CBS) — Illinois state legislators are addressing gun violence.

The bipartisan Task Force on Public Safety and Violence Prevention of the Illinois House of Representatives held a virtual hearing Thursday to discuss how state lawmakers can better help law enforcement prevent gun violence.

“This is not about politics. It’s about lives. It’s about welcoming all points of view and putting into practice real solutions that can help save lives,” said the Illinois Rep. La Shawn Ford (D-), head of the task force.

The task force has brought together politicians, prosecutors, law enforcement officials and even a licensed arms dealer for a hearing to discuss possible solutions to the deadly shooting in Chicago, Highland Park and other communities, for example.

Ford said it would be an ongoing dialogue after Thursday’s meeting.
