Miami Marlins pitcher Daniel Castano was hit in the head at 104 mph. vs. Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.

Castano, who was called from Triple-A’s Miami affiliate to start on Thursday, was able to leave the game under his own power. The Marlins later announced that Castano had suffered a mild concussion and bruised forehead and would be subjected to further evaluation.

The incident happened late in the first half at the Great American Ballpark. The ball came off the bat of Reds third baseman Donovan Solano and ricocheted off Castano’s head, rising into the air in front of Marlins third baseman Joey Wendl secured the ball in the second half.

Castano immediately fell to his knees after being hit. The door to the far fence of the field was open in case a cart was needed to get Castano off the field.

Castano appeared in nine games for Marlins this seasonstarting with six games. He has an era of 3.86 in 35.0 innings with 20 strikeouts and nine walks.

Miami beat the Reds 7–6 to go up to 47–52 for the season.

Marlins out in the ninth inning Lost 5–4, but a solo home run from Jesús Sánchez tied the game at 5–5 before Miami could score two more points in the frame.

The Miami win gave the Marlins a share in the four-game series against Cincinnati.
