Mhalele changes the composition of Bafana

While Bafana Bafana prepares for Chan’s first round qualifier second leg against Comoros at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday, coach Helman Mhalele has made several changes to his roster.

Bafana won the first leg 1-0 away last week, but several injuries in his squad have forced Mhalele to make some lineup changes, such as bringing Mamelody Sundowns midfielder Promis Mhum and Kaiser Chiefs forward George Matlow on board.

“I added five new players to the away team because some of our first leg players were ruled out due to injury. We have brought in the likes of Promis Mhuma, George Matlow, Sammy Seabee, Sibusiso Milaci and Keenan Phillips as suitable replacements as we continue to prepare for the upcoming second leg against Komor,” Mhalele told Safa.net.

“This second match will not be easy because we expect the Comoros to attack us with the intention of canceling the result of the first match we showed against them. We’re not going to give them a spot because this is a match we want to dominate from the first whistle to the last.”

As Bafana’s under-23 team compete in Chan’s qualifiers, South African Football Association (Safa) President Danny Jordaan congratulated the team on their away victory.

“You did a great job with the away win in the first match against the Comoros. It is now up to you to finish the job and eventually qualify for this Chan tournament. There are players who managed to play only four or fewer caps for Bafan Bafan. You are still young and can work on yourself to surpass those numbers and hopefully earn more caps for Bafan Bafan. The work needed to reach that goal starts now, although you need to perform well here and also do well in the upcoming under-23 qualifiers,” Jordaan said.

The Chan tournament will be held in Algiers in January 2023.
