Golfer Mark Hubbard holed one in the first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, but with an ace he was sure he missed when he hit the club.

Hubbard approached the 11th hole one under par on Thursday at North Course at the Detroit Country Club.

He hit the hole eight times before the tournament, but he was not sure about this blow. According to the PGA Tour website, Hubbard even deliberately dropped his stick when he sent the ball into the side of the field.

“This is embarrassing,” Hubbard said, turning to his caddy.

But when Hubbard turned around, he realized that the ball was going straight for the pin.

“Dude, this better not come in,” Wyndham Clark, one of Hubbard’s teammates, said as he watched the ball.

Hubbard had made a hole in one a result that took him by surprise.

One playmate told Hubbard that he would not give him an “A”. Another jokingly said, “That doesn’t count. You can’t drop your club.”

Hubbard spoke to reporters about the failure after round 68.

“To be honest, it was pretty embarrassing,” Hubbard said. “Today I didn’t quite understand where the ball would go. I’ll take a week off and everything I just didn’t feel right and I think I’ve also dropped the stick on about three of the last four shots and it ended well.”

“I just felt really stuck and I thought it would be right on the green,” he continued. “I looked up and it was a perfect one-yard draw… It landed and leaked out like a punch.”
