McCarthy, who was the darling of a great game in South Africa when he played for the national team.
The former Porto and Blackburn Rovers forward still holds the all-time record for most goals scored by the South African senior men’s team with 31 goals, representing the country 79 times in his career.

Some Twitter users have ridiculed that McCarthy will coach United striker Cristiano Ronaldo and that the Portuguese does not know the new coach.
