Tyler Naquin says New York Mets deal was ‘surprise’

New York acquired outfielder Tyler Naquin from the Cincinnati Reds, which came as a surprise to the left-handed forward.

“It was definitely completely unexpected,” Nakin said on Friday. according to the New York Post. “I’ve heard a few things about other teams, but every year you hear something about a trade deadline. I’m sure that in the next couple of days everyone here will start to have a heat wave.

Nakin adds more bat in the Mets and a player who can fill all three outfield positions for manager Buck Showalter.

“He’s a guy who can play all three outfield positions, is left-handed, is a good defender and thrower, and also manages bases,” Showalter said. “He can bring some of the things that all clubs need. Just one more thing that we can maneuver and present a tough squad.”

Nakin hit .246 with 33 RBIs and seven home runs in 56 games for the Reds and is set to become a free agent after the season.

Nakin, who didn’t play in New York’s 6-4 win over Miami Marlins Friday night, I now have the chance to play for a team looking to exit the season.

“It’s fun, man,” Nakin said, according to MLB.com. “This is exciting news. It’s been a whirlwind for the last couple of hours… It should be fun.”
