For starters, Amazon offers same-day shipping from clothing brands PacSun, Diesel, and Superdry, as well as vitamin retailer GNC, in 10 US cities. if they spend less than $25, Amazon says.
Some of the participating retailers are also giving customers the option to order items online and pick them up in store.
CNBC previously reported that Amazon was conducting trials. similar model with Flex delivery driverswhere they picked up packages from retailers in malls and delivered them to customers’ doorsteps.
Amazon continues to invest heavily to make one-day, and in some areas, one-day shipping the default for its Prime members. The company has expanded the number of one-day matching products, and now it has “thousands” or items which can be delivered within a few hours.
Consumers are increasingly demanding ever faster delivery times from online retailers, as evidenced by explosion of ultra-fast product platforms In the past year. Retailers have also jumped on the trend by partnering with on-demand delivery service providers such as DoorDash, Uberpostmen, instacart, UPSRowdy, and TargetShipt. The partnership means that consumers can often receive a new T-shirt or dress within hours.
Through the new partnership, retailers will fulfill orders from stock in their stores, with a Flex delivery driver picking them up from the retailer. This allows Amazon to deliver online purchases to customers’ doorsteps even faster.
Amazon isn’t the only company moving beyond warehouses to fulfill ecommerce orders. walmart as well as Target veins using their big brick and mortar tracks to speed up delivery hoping to expand its share of the e-commerce market.
