Palestinian against being shot by the Israeli army

A Palestinian teenager was killed Friday in clashes with the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

Amjad Nashaat Abu Aliya, 16, “died of critical wounds sustained by live bullets to the chest” during clashes near the village of Al-Muhayer, near Ramallah, the ministry said in a statement.

An AFP photographer reported that between 300 and 400 Palestinians had gathered to protest against the expansion of Israeli settlements in the area.

Clashes erupted when Israeli settlers and Palestinians started throwing stones at each other.

The Israeli army said it intervened after “hundreds of Palestinians provoked violent riots.”

The army and border police responded with “riot control and live fire,” the military said in a statement to AFP.

It comes after two Palestinians were killed during a nighttime raid by the Israeli military in Nablus early Sunday morning, causing the army to call a firefight with militants.

At least 53 Palestinians have been killed since the end of March, mostly in the West Bank, including suspected militants, as well as civilians, including Al Jazeera journalist Shirin Abu Akle, a Palestinian-American dual citizen who covered the Israeli raid in Jenin . .

During the same period, 19 people – most of them Israeli civilians – were killed, mostly as a result of attacks by Palestinians. Three Israeli Arab attackers were also killed.
