Selena Gomez is working on a reboot of the 80s classic “Working Girl”

Look what The success of Top Gun: Maverick brought: the revival of another long-conceived dormant IP of the 80s – this time with Selena Gomez at the helm.

new Emmy nominee Reportedly developing a reboot of the beloved 1988 romantic comedy Business Girl, which starred Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver. Term reports.

Gomez is in “final talks” to produce the project, which will be written by Diary of a Future President creator Ilana Peña, who, according to Diversity. A director has not yet been assigned to the film, which is scheduled to premiere on Hulu under the banner of 20th Century Studios.

It’s not yet revealed if the Only Murders in the Building actor will also star in the project, presumably as Griffith as Tess, an underrated Staten Island secretary who wants to be taken seriously as a businesswoman.

Directed by the late great Mike Nichols, the original Working Girl follows Tess as she exacts revenge on Katherine’s (Weaver) boss for stealing her idea by impersonating her to make a major acquisition. All the while, she discovers that she is having an affair with a Wall Street colleague Jack (Ford), to whom she is known to say, “I’ve got a head for business and a body for sin.”

The film received rave reviews at the time and grossed over $100 million at the box office. It also received six Oscar nominations, including a rare Best Picture nomination for a comedy film.

Various adaptations of The Business Girl have since appeared, including a short-lived 1990 television series starring Sandra Bullock and a Broadway musical still in development with songs written by Cyndi Lauper.

In addition to her music career and growing beauty empire, Gomez has increasingly established herself as an in-demand producer.

For the last decade she has been an executive producer Netflixthe hit 13 Reasons Why, the HBO Max food series Selena + Chef, and her breakout Hulu comedy Only Murders in the Building.
