Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Clayton Kershaw was put on the injured list on Friday with a lower back injury.
Kershaw is gone game on thursday against the San Francisco Giants as he warmed up before the fifth inning. Right before he left the game, he told the coaches, “My back.”
Kershaw, 34, leg pain difficult due to injury for the last few year s. He hasn’t made 30 starts since the 2015 season.
This is his 11th season at IL since 2014, and his second this year. Both stints at IL were due to back injuries.
Despite injuries, the three-time Cy Young Award winner is performing similarly to previous years of his stellar career. He has a 2.64 ERA with 0.98 WHIP and 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings. In his career, he has a 2.49 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
He also has responsibilities. two perfect games in the eighth inning this year. The first time it happened was during his season debut, but after the seventh inning he was pulled by manager Dave Roberts due to strict injury protection field counting.
This summer, Kershaw was named an All-Star for the ninth time and started the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium. It was his first starting nod in the midsummer classic.
Kershaw has made 15 starts this year after making 22 last season.
