Australian racing driver Oscar Piastri, 21, caused an uproar on Tuesday after he contested a post on his Alpine racing team.

Alpine F1 team announced On Tuesday, when Piastri was promoted to a racing spot for the 2023 season after being a member of Alpine’s junior program since 2020.

Shortly after the promotion was announced, Piastri took to Twitter to dispute the move, stating that he would not be competing for the Alpine team in 2023.

“I understand that without my consent, Alpine F1 issued a press release late tonight that I am driving for them next year,” Piastri wrote on Twitter. “This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I won’t be driving for Alpine next year.”

According to ESPN, Piastri signed with McLaren. McLaren will have to get away from driver Daniel Ricciardo take Piastri on board.

Ricciardo’s contract with McLaren runs until 2023.

It is reported that Riccardo says McLaren Friday that he intends to replace him with Piastri next season, according to ESPN. If Piastri does move to McLaren, Ricciardo’s next move could be Alpine, where he can fill the space reserved for Piastri.
