Eva Nga introduced himself well to Orlando Pirates fans after his lone goal gave the Buccaneers a 1-0 victory over Soweto rivals Swallows FC in the DStv Premier League at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
New coach José Riveiro gave new players Nga, Tapelo Xoki and Nkosinati Sibisi their first official start with the Pirates.
Goal Nga was scored at the very beginning of the match, as the “Pirates” started the game successfully, but the guests failed.
The Buccaneers looked very lively from the start, and the team was mostly in possession of the ball.
A good move in the first 10 minutes of the match saw Cabelo Dlamini pick new striker Nga, and the former Chippa United striker made no mistake by finding the back of the net with a low blow, leaving the Orlando crowd ecstatic.
Swallow made some effort to try and open Bux’s defenses from the flanks, but their efforts did not pay off.
The game went into recess when the pirates took the driver’s seat.
In the second half, the Birds had some promising attacks and some long-range shots, but it all went wrong.
In the 49th minute, Tschediso Patier shot from outside the penalty area, but Pirates’ new vice-captain Richard Ofori made a great save.
The Bucks also had moments where Nga had chances to extend the home team’s lead, but failed to increase the lead, upsetting the Pirates’ fans.
The Swallows got stronger in the later stages of the match, with Pentji Zulu’s shot going wide, while Patier forced Ofori to make another great save towards the end of the match as the Swallows continued to look for the equalizer.
However, it was the Pirates who ended up going into the new season with three points to their name.
