The Chinese Communist Party was openly outraged by this congressional delegation House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the island last week.
The delegation continued the visit in direct opposition to China’s demands that the US stop the meeting.

The US responded by deploying several warships to the region.
US officials, including senior members of President Biden’s cabinet, have acknowledged the legitimacy of China’s threats to Taiwan.
This was stated by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. military exercises of China, including the missiles the country recently fired into the Taiwan Strait and Japan’s economic zone represent a “significant escalation.”
“China has decided to overreact and use Speaker Pelosi visit as a pretext to increase provocative military activity in and around the Taiwan Strait,” he told a group of reporters at an ASEAN conference on Friday.
Japan, an ally of Taiwan and the United States in East Asia, has expressed its concern.
Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi said the missiles “threaten japan national security and the lives of the Japanese people, which we strongly condemn.”
